Shangri-La Yanuca Island, formerly Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and lovingly referred to as ‘The Fijian’, is Fiji’s largest resort with 443 rooms, Suites and Bures.  All of them have an ocean or lagoon view. All of them have been refurbished and feature contemporary Pacific décor and modern amenities. Of course, with so many rooms there are likewise many configurations to accommodate travelling groups of all sizes, categorised by ‘wing’ they are located in. 

If you imagine the resort is built in a U shape, with the main restaurants, conference centre and bars located in the middle of that U.  To one side is the Lagoon Wing.  To the other, the Ocean and Reef Wing.

The Yanuca Lagoon Wing is located in the heart of the resort’s action. It is very popular with families who want easy access to the resort’s Kids Club, main swimming pool, swimming beach and water park, the Bilo Bar and the Beach Bar & Grill. The bulk of the rooms in this wing, however, accommodate only a maximum of 2 adults and 2 children U12 years and interconnecting rooms (subject to availability) are very limited.  For those with larger families who wish to stay in this area, the Yanuca Lagoon Two Bedroom Suite will accommodate up to 2 adults and 4 children. 

The Ocean Wing is located on the ‘quieter’ side of the main resort facilities.  It is popular with people who want to be ‘close’ to the action, but likewise be able to retreat back to the tranquility of their room.  The ground floor rooms of this wing include the Ocean Grand Deluxe Rooms and these rooms will accommodate families of 2 adults and 3 children U12 years.  Other categories in this wing accommodate 2 adults/2 children U12 years but do interconnect (subject to availability) to allow more space and privacy for families.

Located at the furthest point from the main resort, the Reef Wing is an exclusive adult only oasis. Popular with couples and honeymooners, it has its own dedicated arrival access, lunchtime dining option and an adult only pool. Guests of this wing enjoy additional privileges also, such as an invitation to the daily adult only evening cocktail hour where a selection of complimentary beverages (cocktails, house wines, local beers, juices and soft drinks) are served with delicious canapes.  For those seeking an elevated experience, there are also luxurious 1 Bedroom Reef Bures.

In brief, there are 4 restaurants located on site, ensuring that every guests preferred culinary tastes are catered for, and 6 bars to ensure that you never really have to walk that far for a sunset cocktail. Shangri-La features one of the best swimming beaches on Fiji’s main island, complemented by a floating water park  for children 7 years +. There is a free daily Kids Club, kids playground, games room, tennis court, 9 hole Executive Golf Course, excellent gym, 3 resort pools, bicycle hire and a myriad of motorised and non-motorised water sports on offer. 

And if that that sounds a little exhausting, you can rejuvenate at Chi – the Spa at Shangri La.  Offering a selection of healing massages and luxuriant facials and treatments, we do recommend you go early in your stay so that you have the opportunity to re-visit….often!

There is so much on offer at Shangri-La Yanuca Island that it’s impossible to cover it all in one post.  Wedding couples love the beachside chapel and the variety of accommodation options if offers to their guests.  Couples love the convenience of being in their own exclusive bubble, while having the convenience of the resort’s broader facilities just a stroll away.  And families – well, families love pretty much everything about the place, and with good reason.
