You arrive by boat. The short flight from Papeete comes in low over the lagoon, a private launch is waiting at Bora Bora airport, and the crossing to Motu Tehotu is the last leg of the journey and the loveliest. Mount Otemanu stands straight across the water from the resort, and it will be there every time you look up for the next six days, from your deck in the morning, across the pool at noon, behind the sunset at night.
Your bungalow sits on stilts over the lagoon, teak and Polynesian artwork inside, a king bed made for lying in, and a private terrace hanging over water so clear the fish are on show. The terrace becomes the place you eat, read, swim from and do very little at all. Air Tahiti Nui’s Dreamliner leaves Sydney at 8.20pm on Tuesdays and Fridays and lands in Papeete at 6.35am, 7 hours 15 minutes later, which means dinner at home, a sleep, and Tahiti greets at sunrise. From there it is about 50 minutes by air to Bora Bora and the boat across the lagoon, both included. Coming home, the flight leaves Papeete at 12.10pm on Mondays and Thursdays and lands in Sydney at 5.45pm the following day.
Melbourne and Brisbane travellers fly to Sydney with Qantas or Virgin, and those flights will be configured in the price too.
