'Oro Paraoa

A private estate on the Moorea lagoon, reserved for one party at a time. Two villas, a private beach, a sixteen-metre pool and a cinema. Attended by concierge and chefs. Shared with no one.

“The name of this glorious private villa property provides its secrets. ‘Oro is the Tahitian deity of love and war. This land was sacred to him long before the villa arrived. Paraoa is Tahitian for whale, and it’s earned. In season, humpbacks pass close enough to watch from the estate’s own beach. No tour boat required. Just a chair on the sand, a coffee or cocktail, and a little patience.”

One Booking. One Party. The Whole Estate.

'Oro Paraoa accepts a single reservation at a time — eight guests across two villas, with three kitchens, a cinema, a gym, a sixteen-metre pool and a private beach on the Moorea lagoon.

‘Oro Paraoa is not a resort, and that is precisely its appeal. It is a complete private estate on the shore of Moorea’s lagoon, and it cannot be booked any other way than whole. For the length of your stay, every corner of it — beach, pool, villas, cinema, kitchens — answers to you and your guests, and to no one else.

Mount Tearai stands behind the property; the lagoon lies before it. Between the two sits one of French Polynesia’s most singular addresses: a solar-powered estate where the calm of Nordic design meets the warmth of Polynesian tradition, in rooms hung with commissioned art.

Polynesian Soul, Nordic Discipline

Nothing else on Moorea is designed like this. The interiors hold the clean restraint of the Nordics, softened by Polynesian craft and story — every space on the estate carries a Tahitian name, from ‘ohana (family) at the Garden Villa to moana (ocean) at the pool.

The art is original. Works by Finnish designer and artist Jopsu Ramu — whose commissions include Issey Miyake and Shiseido. They were created from her own years in the islands, among them ‘Whalesong’ and the carved figures ‘Atua’ and ‘Varua’. Her textile designs, woven by the Finnish house Lapuan Kankurit, dress the rooms. The result is a villa that would sit comfortably in a design annual, standing on sand where whales pass.

A Private Beach, and Mornings on the Lagoon

The estate opens directly onto its own beachfront on the north side of the Moorea lagoon. A narrow passage through the shallow reef leads to deeper water for snorkelling straight off the sand. Turtles and rays are regular company. Loungers wait on the beach terrace, and a swing hangs facing the sunset.

Breakfast is set at the beachside table overlooking the water. Watch the horizon as you pour the coffee — the humpbacks the estate is named for pass within sight of shore.

The Service of a Fine Hotel, for an Audience of Eight

The compromise with most private villas is service. ‘Oro Paraoa makes no such compromise. The estate is professionally run by South Pacific Management, with a dedicated concierge from 7 am to 7 pm, seven days a week.

Private chefs cook to your preferences across three purpose-built kitchens — a degustation dinner one evening, omakase the next, a long lunch by the pool the day after. The concierge sources rare cellar bottles — Margaux, Petrus, Cheval Blanc, a Macallan 18 for after dinner — typically within 24 to 48 hours. And the estate’s own guides, Ultra Reef, among Moorea’s most experienced divers, run scuba diving, snorkelling, whale-encounter, and sunset cruises directly from your beach.

Privacy Within the Gate, Moorea Just Beyond It

Most estates of this calibre purchase their privacy with isolation. ‘Oro Paraoa manages something rarer. The property is entirely self-contained — its exact address is disclosed only to confirmed guests — yet the gate opens onto a genuine Moorea neighbourhood.

Moorea Beach Café by Bruno Jamais and the much-loved local table Rudy’s are a minute’s stroll. Le Chai de Moorea, a fine wine shop, sits three minutes away alongside banks and a grocery market. The Moorea Green Pearl golf course is ten minutes by car, the airport the same, the ferry terminal twelve. Withdraw completely, or wander out for coffee. It’ll be a dreamy experience, either way.

Fine dining plated by private chefs at 'Oro Paraoa

Dining at ‘Oro Paraoa is composed around you. Private chefs prepare whatever the day suggests — a fine-dining dinner, omakase, a light lunch, canapés at sunset — pairing fresh island produce, some of it from the estate’s own organic garden, with your tastes.

Three kitchens serve the estate: an indoor kitchen with a generous breakfast bar; a back kitchen fitted for professional preparation, with a heating drawer, professional-grade ice machine and Vitamix; and the commanding outdoor kitchen, where a Big Green Egg for open-fire cooking sits beside a Gaggenau suite of teppanyaki, grill and gas hobs.

As for the cellar: through trusted local suppliers, the concierge sources rare and iconic bottles — Château Figeac, Cheval Blanc, Margaux, Petrus, Masseto, Tignanello, Dom Pérignon, Ruinart — usually within 24 to 48 hours. Whisky drinkers are equally provided for, Macallan 18 included.

How to Get to ‘Oro Paraoa from Australia

‘Oro Paraoa is on Moorea, French Polynesia’s garden island — directly across the water from Tahiti, where Australian travellers arrive at Faa’a International Airport in Papeete.

From 14 December 2026, seasonal nonstop flights between Sydney and Papeete make the journey simpler than it has ever been, provided dates fall within the flying season. Travellers from Melbourne, Brisbane and other cities may connect through Sydney or Auckland, depending on schedules and fares. Arriving by private jet? Tahiti’s FBO routinely receives Global 7500s and G650ERs.

From Papeete, Moorea is one of the easiest island transfers in French Polynesia: a scenic 30-to-50-minute ferry crossing, with Aremiti, Terevau and Vae’arai between them running roughly twice an hour, or a short flight to Moorea Airport. The villa is a ten-minute drive from the airport and twelve from the ferry terminal — and ‘Oro Paraoa’s staff greet you at the airport, terminal or your yacht, with complimentary transfer to the estate. Travelling by superyacht? Opunohu Bay and Cook’s Bay both receive them, and the villa arranges the tender-to-door run.

‘Oro Paraoa also sits beautifully inside a wider French Polynesia itinerary — Moorea Airport connects directly to Bora Bora, Rangiroa and Huahine, with private charters to Tetiaroa. Island Escapes coordinates international flights, ferry or air transfers, and the complete multi-island itinerary around your villa dates.
