Likuliku Lagoon Resort - Luxury Fiji - Activity - Main Resort Pool

The Escape Artist tells us she was working hard during her recent educational trip to some of Fiji’s luxury resorts. Her glowing account of Likuliku Lagoon Resort would perhaps suggest otherwise…..

I have been lucky enough to stay at Likuliku Lagoon Resort a number of times and each visit is as fabulous as my first.   The staff are always attentive, the luxury of the bures still wows me and meal times are as highly anticipated as they were when I first sat down to dine there in 2007.  Despite these incredibly high standards, I would have to say that my visit there last month was the best I have ever had.  It’s no surprise therefore that despite being only 7 years old, Likuliku has some guests embarking on their 15th visit! This 100% Fijian family owned resort is a sanctuary.

Resort Spa Treats

From the moment our group set foot on the resort pier and were greeted with a boisterous “Bula”, we knew we were in for a treat!  It started with a passionfruit iced tea and cool towels infused with Likuliku’s own signature Pure Fiji scent ‘Bliss’ on arrival and continued all the way to the Tatadra Spa, where my aromatic hour long massage took me to “lomalagi” (Fijian for Heaven).  I have to say that my massage was a standout….. and I am an experienced massage judge!

With the strains of Fijian music playing quietly in the background in my Deluxe Beachfront Villa, I looked at my private plunge pool and then at the bottle of chilled Veuve Clicquot on my coffee table. The perfect holiday combination!  It is easy to see why Likuliku has been named No.3 in Top 10 Most Romantic Islands in the World by “Islands Magazine” USA. Despite being sans husband, someone had to make use of the bottle of Champagne…. and it went down a treat (shared of course with some of the other girls on the group!)

Thirsty work quenched with cocktails

Strangely parched from the earlier swim, the sunset drinks at the Masima Bar were the perfect wind down as we headed into the evening. Discussions about how each member of our group had occupied their afternoon at this fabulous resort flowed with our wonderful hosts Kirsten and Tulia, in between Coco Mojitos, Island Affairs and Gin & Tonics. Located on the end of Likuliku’s pier, Masima is a gorgeous setting – a sanctuary of relaxation for the evening with the cool ocean breeze and a million stars overhead.

Hungry for more

Then it was onto our highly anticipated dinner at Fijiana Restaurant.  The famous degustation menu is reminiscent of meals served in some of the Melbourne’s finest restaurants – hard to believe when you are on an Island in the middle of the South Pacific.

An amuse bouche set our tastebuds in action. Starters were a closely fought choice – the yellow fin tuna tataki with Asian remoulade, nori salt and compressed apple OR the citrus cured Ora king salmon served with goat’s cheese and chive tortellini and Beurre noisette.  The yellow fin won (pictured left)!

Having devoured the entrée we excitedly moved onto mains. Again – the choice was almost excruciating.  Pan seared mahimahi with a soy and shitake jus or seared lamb loin with onion rings, carrot and ginger puree, charred leek salt, fromage blanc espuma and pomegranate jus (left)?  By this stage I am pondering how greedy I will look if I order both.

Sense prevailed thankfully, leaving room for potentially one of the best desserts I have ever had.  The goat’s cheese sorbet, mint sherbet and raspberry crumble was simply delightful. The sweetness of the raspberry complimented the tart of the goat’s cheese and paired with the mint it was a marriage made in heaven. The peanut butter parfait, raspberry and white chocolate mousse with peanut brittle was extremely good but let me say again just how delectably amazing that goat’s cheese sorbet was!

Food lovers island paradise

Enormous congratulations must go to Executive Chef Ihaka Peri and Food and Beverage Manager Aurelie and their incredible teams for a dinner that was produced with primarily locally sourced food in such an incredibly creative way.  Seriously – if food is a priority on your holiday then do yourself a favour and holiday at Likuliku.  Every day is Christmas for your tastebuds!
